The thing is everyone wants to travel the world, everyone wants do something adventurous in their lives; something so epic that when you’re finally on your death bed, you’ll have absolutely zero regrets from your life!
But the question here is how many of them actually have the guts to leave everything behind and chase their passion, or quite honestly the means to live out of a suitcase?
Well, meet Johnny Ward, the 31-year-old guy from Northern Ireland who never let logic and logistics stop him from pursuing his passion of visiting all the 193 countries across the world.
Johnny comes from a poor Irish family, and always hated the idea of having a mundane 9-5 job. Not surprisingly, it didn’t take him long to get fed up of the corporate world. Soon he quit his job through which he used to earn $20,000 per month and started his own travel blog—OneStep4Ward.
He wrote on his Facebook page “I realised that, with only one life, I don’t want to spend Monday to Friday locked in a place I don’t want to be in.”
Once his blog began to generate revenue, he expanded that to an entire media company,Step4WardMedia, which is essentially an online inbound marketing firm. “I associated the concept of making money online with this like charlatan personality,” he told Business Insider in an interview. “I couldn’t get my head around how people actually do it, and then I cracked the specific thing that I do online and was like ‘Wow, I can’t believe it.’”
He has visited 152 countries out of a total of 193 so far. Have a look at his inspiring story!
Like any guy who’s already knee deep in a dream of travelling the whole world, Johnny unsuccessfully worked several odd jobs—from teaching English to participating in medical experiments.
This was before he got a high paying sales job in Australia. He would make up to $20,000 per month, but Johnny wasn’t happy. The travelling bug was gnawing inside him.
In 2010, he quit his job, started his blog and began travelling.
He was soon able to grow his operations into an entire media company. Step4Ward Media now earns $1 million and averages about $1,000 a day.
Oh, and Johnny also met his rather gorgeous girlfriend during one of his travels, on a flight. She is a flight attendant posted in Thailand.
His job offers him a lot of flexibility which has made his dream of travelling to exotic locations and exploring different places a beautiful reality, albeit his girlfriend by his side.
He also advises people who want to do the same to just take the plunge. “I worry in the social media age, people get so caught up in creating inspirational memes and oversharing, when you just gotta do it.”
What is his advice to people who want to start a similar blog? “No matter how you plan to make money online, always start a blog, even if you’re not going to monetize. Have a voice, be an authority. I think having a blog is so integral to that movement.”
Because who knows while living your dream, you might just stumble upon the girl of your dreams!
