Spread the love

The Oscar nominations are out, and this year, the list is slightly more inclusive and actually looks pretty good, given the fact that a lot of good movies were made in the past year. Here are 5 Oscar-nominated movies we highly recommend you to watch in case you love good content.

1. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Quentin Tarantino’s brilliant direction met the genius of Leonadro Di Caprio and Brad Pitt who play fading Western stars in this ode to Hollywood from 1969. Watch it for great acting and good vintage aesthetics.  The movie is running for nominations in categories which include best picture, director, actor, supporting actor, original screenplay, cinematography, costume design, production design, sound editing and sound mixing.

2. Joker

The only movie that got the whole world talking like no other movie has done in the longest time. Joaquin Phoenix is the reason to watch this masterpiece and experience it yourself. With over 11 nominations in the running, trust Arthur Fleck’s character to be etched in your mind long after you are done watching it. The nominations include best picture, director, actor, adapted screenplay, cinematography, editing, costume design, makeup and hairstyling, original score, sound editing, and sound mixing.

3. The Irishman

This brilliant movie is based on Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses, and follows the story of Frank Sheeran (played by Robert De Niro), who claims to  work as a hitman for the Bufalino crime family, and also claims to be responsible for the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino). The nominations include best picture, director, adapted screenplay, supporting actor (twice), cinematography, costume design, editing, production design and visual effects.

4. Marriage Story

Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson play a New York couple who dabble in theatre and struggle to keep their marriage working. One of the most emotionally dense movies in a long time, the pain of a relationship falling apart has been beautifully portrayed by the two actors. Special mention to Adam Driver who not only deserves the ‘best actor’ nomination, but needs to get more of such meaty roles.

5. A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood

This movie has got Tom Hanks to score an Oscar nomination in over 20 years, so it had to be on our list. The story follows Lloyd Vogel, an investigative journalist all set to interview a certain Fred Rogers with mere skepticism. Soon Mr Rogers’ good nature catches up with him and he is forced to peek inside his own deep past.
